Wow.
You cannot ask for a better half if you’re a Kansas Jayhawk fan.
Kansas was only a 3-point favorite going into this matchup, yet leads 28-7 going into halftime. Jalon Daniels has been magnificent, completing 14-19 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing eight times for 33 yards.
All Jayhawk drives so far have resulted in a touchdown, the last of which took just 36 seconds. Kansas has marched methodically down the field and dashed down the field, regardless of pace the Jayhawks are lighting up the scoreboard.
Kansas coach Lance Leipold told ESPN on the sideline he’s pleased with the diversity of his offense so far.
“I think our offensive is doing a heck of a job just mixing it up quite a bit, Leipold said. “[Jalon Daniels] keeps plays alive, the accuracy, he’s throwing the ball, it’s great to have him out there again.”
Daniels, the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, looks like a Heisman candidate.
But give credit to the Kansas defense, too, which has surrendered just 2.4 yards per carry to a team that prides itself for its gritty run game.
The Jayhawks also have not committed a single penalty.
Look for Kansas to continue thrashing the Illini – this one is over.
