Things began to unravel for the Blues after Enzo Fernandez botched a penalty kick and 10 minutes later, Michail Antonio blasted in a goal to make it 2-1 for West Ham. Golden boy Moises Caicedo made his Chelsea debut at the 61′ mark and surrendered a penalty Lucas Paqueta converted to seal the 3-1 win.

Key moment

Raheem Sterling drew a penalty for Chelsea to offer the Blues a chance to take a 2-1 lead, but Alphonse Areola made an impressive save on a meager shot attempt by Fernandez to turn the momentum completely in West Ham’s favor.

Significance

It’s too early to deem this a repeat season for Chelsea, but winless after its first two matches is anything but an auspicious start to this campaign. The Blues turned in a solid effort against Liverpool, but this was a thoroughly disappointing encore.
